Welcome to Borkfest 2025, a hantverksfestival in pure swinglish!
Tillsammans med hantverkarna Raleigh och Oliver Klotzek arrangerar vi den tredje konst- och hantverksfestivalen i Borkhult, Östergötland!
Under fyra dagar kommer vi hantverka och nätverka tillsammans med otroliga människor.
Festivalprogrammet består av workshops i olika tekniker, hantverksdemonstrationer och föreläsningar. Från morgon till kväll blir det finfint häng med andra hantverksfreaks.
I år kommer vi satsa lite mer på att kunna erbjuda aktiviteter för barn så att familjer kan komma och slöjda tillsammans!
Sista dagen öppnar vi för allmänheten och då kan de som vill sälja eget hantverk.
I samarbete med ABF, Hemslöjden i Östergötland, Åtvidabergs Kommun och Borkhults Natur-. och Kulturförening.

SHARPENING BASICS DEMONSTRATION
Oliver Klotzek will demonstrate a few different ways of sharpening carving knives. Including on a Tormek, with wet & dry sandpaper, and on a waterstone. Oliver will talk through the steps of his sharpening process and will show you what to look for to achieve a pleasing sharp edge on your knives.

PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR PRODUCTS DEMONSTRATION
Whether you have an interest for photography or just desperate for tips in order to get back into crafting quicker, this workshop could be to your benefit! Replace the thought of needing expensive equipment with learning to make use of and control the light and materials in your surroundings. Bring your Borkfest creations to put theory into practice and use the expanded perspective to update your workshop gallery at home!

BOWL TURNING ON A FOOT POWERED LATHE

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: During this turning class you will have the opportunity to learn the whole process of axing and turning a wooden bowl on a foot powered lathe. No experience is required! We will start with axing a blank in groups to experience the process and will have pre-axed bowl blanks prepared for everyone.
If you have prior experience and you would like to improve your turning you can work on a more advanced project or technique such as a finishing, design, locking lid boxes (there may not be enough time to complete a whole box), cup turning, etc. Please get in touch in advance to discuss your project - info@wildcraftedhome.com

BIO: Oliver Klotzek has been an enthusiastic green-woodworker for about 6 years. He spent some time with various woodworkers in Europe and the USA to expand his skills and improve his techniques. He mainly specializes in turning on a pole lathe, where he produces bowls and plates as well as other kitchen utensils. He would like to get more people excited about traditional craft and convey how valuable it can be to create something with simple techniques and your own hands.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Twined fibers can be found across the world using a wide variety of local materials. Together we will play with plants & recycled fabric. I will offer all that I know about processing fibers to make twine and rope. These techniques of twining show up around the world and are use for so many projects. (Photos are examples of cordage in the world around us taken by Raleigh)
If you would like please bring along any fibers you have harvested and want to try (we will chat about the qualities you should look for in plants. You can also bring fabric or retired scarves or clothes that you want to give new purpose and don’t mind cutting up! This can be a great way of preserving ancestral clothing pieces that you want to give new live.

CYANOTYPE PRINTING

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Learn the art of cyanotype, and paint using the sun with Lily Ray, artist, photographer and journalist. Cyanotype is a cameraless alternative photographic process from the 1800s, also known as “blueprinting” and “sunprinting”. Two non-toxic chemicals (potassium ferricyanide and ferric ammonium citrate) are mixed, painted on paper or fabric, and exposed to UV light. The resulting print depends on what materials are used to create shadow during exposure.
All materials are included so you can play and experiment with this incredibly versatile artform. For three and a half hours, become absorbed in creating striking blue exposures using a range of materials, from photographic negatives, feathers, flowers and leaves, to glass, rice paper and syrup.
Cyanotype is so easy and satisfying, and results are so quick. No previous experience is necessary! Your imagination is the limit. Extra materials will also be available for purchase. All tools & materials will be provided by the instructors.

BIO: Lily Ray is a photographic artist from Australia who was taught cyanotype printing as a child by her mother. She rediscovered its value in photographer later in life, and has been running workshops and holding courses on the process ever since. With roots in journalism, her artistic work focuses strongly on storytelling and identity, and her workshops are fun and personal experiences.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: I den här kursen får du lära dig traditionella och moderna metoder för att framställa egna klisterpapper.
Klisterpapper eller klistermarmorering är en teknik som historiskt använts av bokbindare för att skapa dekorativa papper till böcker och askar. Med egengjort klister och färg skapar du kreativa mönster på papper. Vi använder enkla redskap som vi bland annat tillverkar själva. Du får även lära dig att efterarbeta papperna så att de blir tåliga att slöjda med.
Inga förkunskaper krävs. Alla verktyg och allt material tillhandahålls av kursledaren.

BIO: Elin är kunnig inom flera hantverksområden och utforskar ofta nya material och processer. Hon har en stor nyfikenhet och fördjupar sig ofta genom att söka sig till de historiska källorna. Elin är i grunden utbildad natur- och kulturvårdare och fotograf men arbetar med skapande i alla dess former. Hon är en pappersentusiast och självlärd inom klistermarmorering.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Axing is a foundational skill in green woodworking. In this class students will learn to safely work with an ax to create spoon blanks. The skills acquired can be directly applied to axing out bowl blanks and other forms. Raleigh creates a space where those that might otherwise avoid working with an ax feel safe.
This workshop is designed for those both with little to no experience in axing or woodwork or those wanting to improve their axing technique. She can observe your work and give you tasks and pointers to improve your axing.
What to Bring: If you have an axe already I suggest you bringing it as it is good to be familiar with your own tools. We will also have axes available to use.

I then studied three years of blacksmithing at Sätergläntan - institutet för slöjd och hantverk. In 2016, during my last year at Sätergläntan, i started my own company Rydbergs Smide & Hantverk. Since then i've been working as a blacksmith in my forge located in Boet outside of Ödeshög.

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION: Spoons, one of the simplest and most used tools. We often find that everyone has a favorite cooking spoon, and more likely than not, a wooden one. Making beautiful & useful items for your home or as gifts is one of most special skills to have. It all begins with spoon carving for most green woodworkers. Spoon carving is a wood craft that has a low barrier to entry only needing a few basic tools to start and a material that is widely available in both urban and rural settings. It is also a very mobile craft. We love always having a craft in our bag that we can pull out and work on throughout the day.
In this class we will go through safe technique for carving, wood sourcing and orientation, and design.
This course is suitable for complete beginners as well as those with more experience who are looking to improve their skills. Raleigh will be available to cater the workshop to a variety of experience.
